Car, Bus, Train & Ferry.
Get the train to downtown Auckland and then do the circle on Auckland's EXPLORER BUS. Hop on and off where-ever and when-ever you like. http://www.explorerbus.co.nz/
The station is 2 minutes walk from the Hotel. Combine the train and the bus pass, get the train to Britomart then hop on the Explorer Bus for an interesting inexpensive day out with no hassle. Why not purchase a Discovery Pass and enjoy everything Auckland has to offer by Bus, Train and Ferry. Discovery Pass.
Use your Discovery Pass on the Ferry, go across the harbour and have lunch in Historic Devonport. If you want something more exotic why not spend a day on Waiheke Island for a little extra cost.

If the divine creator has taken pains to give us delicious and exquisite things to eat, the least we can do is prepare them well and serve them with ceremony.
The French Cafe:
Good food from fresh ingredients at realistic prices is Aucklands forte. The French Cafe is a long established well known example. Reach it by bus, train or taxi from Hotel Ellerslie.
Cin Cin on Quay: 
must be one of the better restaurants in the world. Get the train to Britomart and cross the road.
However if fine dining is not your thing there are many mid price range restaurants of all cuisine styles to tempt your palate.
